The Australia netball team have started their UK tour in dominant fashion by thrashing Scotland 78-22 on Sunday night.

West Coast Fever sharp shooter Caitlin Bassett lead the rout for the Aussie hitting 89% of her shots to land 32 goals in the rout. Australian mid-courter Renae Hallinan was voted player of the match while Natalie Medhurst was also influential in the GS position scoring 20 goals from 21 attempts.

Australian coach Norma Plummer opted to mix up her team in both the first and second half with Bassett and Medhurst each play two quarters. Kate Beveridge (15 from 21) and Susan Pratley (11 from 17) were also rotated in the GA position as Plummer gave everyone in her youthful squad a run on court.

The win was even more impressive given the side was without influential captain Natalie von Bertouch, who missed the match after spending the night in hospital with a as a stomach upset precaution.

She is expected to be the team’s second Test against Scotland on Tuesday.

While the Australians are again expected to dominate of the Scots, it will be valuable preparation for the team’s three-match series against England starting on February 19, which is expected to be much tougher opposition.
